fishmonger is experimental artist underscores' highly-anticipated, 10-track debut album, released on March 25 of 2021. With its two flagship singles “Second hand embarrassment” and “Kinko’s field trip 2006”, fishmonger drummed up excitement prior to full release for its repeating mantra, a “new wave of the future!”

The full release features appearances from longtime collaborator and electronic/indie artist Knapsack; experimental electronic artist 8485, and indie artist Maxwell Young.

According to underscores during the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD RADIO 210421 intro this album was “driven by fate.” The golden bangus (milkfish) discussed in the 9th track—"The fish song"—was caught on underscores' birthday on 4/21, one of the many reasons the project felt destined to be for the artist.

Also discussed on the third installment of M.O.T.R.R. and portrayed in “Spoiled little brat” MV was one of the major themes of in-betweenness and liminal spaces. The album reflects an “uncanny” and “uncomfortable middle”; a “transitional spot” between two points that underscores was experiencing at the time of writing the album.

In terms of production, the album comprises dirty drums that punch, catchy lyrics that excite, and beautifully paired instrumentals and gritty distortions that transport.
