It's very underrated. This album has some of my favorite songs of all time, thus the unique audio design give it a certain depth that the recent album doesn't have. Hope they don't forget these songs while on tour!

I have a hard time understanding why people pan this album so much -- no, it isn't Odd Blood. That doesn't automatically make it bad! After giving myself some time with it, I really enjoy most of this album, though there are a couple songs I don't care for as much. I don't know that the recording captured the energy of the live versions, but the studio tracks are still fun.

I have to admit it, I enjoy it even more than I thought I would, despite the lukewarm reviews, this album is fresh and tangy, bursts out with creativity and actual feeling of joy. After some hours spent with this record, I can't even point out any weak moments, it flows so perfectly.

try putting album on shuffle for your next listen (if you don't have the vinyl/cassette version)

Addictive album. Really gets under your skin after a few plays. Loved Odd Blood but very pleased to hear the evolution here.

The album cover looks strangely similar to Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head...

Certainly this isn't "Odd Blood Pt. 2", but I think this album eventually sinks into the constant listener, specially the second half of it.

@Machiventa, I'm also excited to have new Yeasayer music. You're right to caution against high expectations: mine weren't low. For that reason, I took a break from Fragrant World and I've recently "come back." Unfortunately, I stand by my first impressions. Pitchfork's review is an apt summary (this sentence listed under: "words I never thought that I would write, ever"). Every band (except for The Beatles) has a bad day in the studio. This is Yeasayer's. I'm nevertheless optimistic for their fourth album, because the raw talent behind these mistakes is, well, unmistakeable. Ya but srsly, disappointmenton. 6/10.

I didn't like it at all after first listening... Odd Blood is too good to compare with this fail

@grrrarrgh why write it off so quick? Maybe it needs repeat listens to unveil it's complexity and beauty. Or maybe it would be worth revisiting with less expectation. Or maybe in fact it's just a shame it's a downward turn. It does seem to be somewhat of a noisy mess to me upon first listen but I'll have to let it sink in a bit to have a better grasp of where it sits with me. I'm still excited to have new material to look forward to for the rest of the summer and beyond!

this lacks the winding complexity of their first album and the refined clarity of their second album. on first pass, it sounds like an unmemorable mess of wub wub. an intriguing album needs to be clever or beautiful, ideally both. this album is neither. is Fragrant World a misstep, or will it signal an unwelcome downward turn for Yeasayer? only a fourth album will tell. what a shame.
