They are just up there with Radiohead, but very few people are willing to admit it because they are not edgy enough.

Oh no you didn't talk about my boy 'Step Outside' that way now! 🤬 I will just pretend you said "Ragworm".

Presumably
The touch of Chameleons in the last album has added the post-punk vibes that was missing. I'm sure England needed some talents again like back in the 80's!

The new album is just kinda ok. It's not a bad album, but it's... a lot of a lot of things, when it could have been a lot of few very great things. It was already clear from the singles that something bigger is missing, even if they were mostly quite good. I know that when none of the singles becomes my song of the year contender, something's underwhelming. There are some nice highlights, but after the greatness of FIVE (plus V2 songs), for me this album will go down as "that WL album" that I don't love love (joining Friends and Ritual to a degree). But no negative emotions, I just wanted another "Big TV/Five" type of a discography sequel.

I actually think this is a natural continuation of the Five era, I mean it makes more sense that this comes after the latter (the opposite can be said about Friends, where they were only following a trend of 80s inspired music, or Ritual, that is much darker than the debut). For a covid album, although far from flawless, I think it's a pretty great effort, but only time will tell.

I think you're right on, forget the typing typing. A good album but not fantastic. But I only listened to it 5 times. For me 'Big TV' was kind of a disappointment after the first two but it grew on me eventually. 'FIVE' is probably my third favorite.

I hoped that the rest of the album was going to be great as the singles, but I was wrong, unfortunately.

I also am disappointed with the album as a whole, but there are interesting things like Roll December which they have never done before

Are you serious? Have you even heard the "Friends"? Sounds completely different from this new album.

Well pretty solid album so far, Breathe is a very nice chill tune and Roll December is probably their heaviest track which is gonna be great live, The End is also a nice piece of The Cure worship. But what the hell is up with the synths on Step Outside? Has to be the corniest track they have ever made. Also weird that they chose There Is No Cure for It as the closer, I understand it's thematic follow up to the opener but The End works way better as a closer imo

All the three new singles are amazing and probably my favorite material since Ritual. Am I Really Going to Die is unreal

I Don't Want To Go To Mars is honestly one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. Love at first listen <3

the balance between their catchy synthy sound and the dark post-punk is perfect in this song, I can't get enough
