2) This is the demo tape released by 90s band Tool, also known as 72826.This tape was recorded for promotional purpose but was also sold to fans. It's not certain how many copies exist but it's probably a number between 200 & 1000. This has become a very rare and wanted object these days. People are eagerly paying sums like 200 USD for a mint copy. However, very little information can be found on the internet about this tape. At the time of this recording, Tool were hardly existing for a few months. Singer Maynard James Keenan & guitarist Adam Jones had been working together for quite a while already. When they had finally found the right rhytmn section in Danny Carey (drums) & Paul d'Amour (bass), it was time to take off. And they did! In a short matter of time, they developed an unique sound, oftenly imitated but never really equaled. This recording was presumably made at the rehearsel-room at Maynard's house with a 4-track recorder in the spring/summer of '91. The purpose of the recording was to get a record deal with a major (in which the band succeeded by signing to Zoo records just a few months later). But apparently the band was so satisfied with the result that it was sold at gigs and band-meetings as well. In contradiction to what is oftenly suggested, Zoo records was NOT involved in any kind with this release. The tape opens with a great version of Cold n ugly. The track is very much like the live recorded Opiate version but arguebly not *that* angry, which says more about the live version than about this one… Another highlight is the insanely violent version of 'Crawl away'. This is what it would have sounded like, had it been on the Opiate ep. Brilliant! Also the Sober version is slightly different from the eventual version on Undertow.
