I've been listening to SYL for quite many years now and this one still hasn't grown beyond a "decent" opinion for me. I don't know, maybe Devin somewhat forced it to get out of the record contract quickly, as he ended the band soon after its release. It also feels like it's missing something of a "mood". I get a strong feeling that some tracks were just old (scrapped) stuff laying around that they put together and made a record with - it has a lots of filler tracks. Some tracks are great, though - Wrong Side, The New Black, Almost Again... Far Beyond Metal is fun. I'm glad they did a studio recording of it before disbanding.

Yep. And the fact that it was a gimmick led to this album being a satire piece of that particular metal culture! It's kinda humorous that people tend to miss the point of tracks like Far Beyond Metal :P

Obviously this isn't as good as City, SYL or Alien but this still has a lot of amazing cuts on it. Decimator, You Suck, Wrong Side, Fucker, Far Beyond Metal, Almost Again, Polyphony, and The New Black are all pretty great. The mastering is unacceptably awful though.

You Suck, Fucker and Far Beyond Metal are absolutely mind-blowingly amazing. The rest are okay. [2] i'd add Almost Again, Polyphony and The New Black to that.

in this album we can clearly see how strapping gone to end... i mean its still fucking kicks, but more melodic parts takes most of the songs... but there are still precious songs... energetic You Suck, brilliant Wrong Side with lyrics, giutar solo and Devins opera vocals. im hipnotizing with Hope and drums part of Gene Holgan. and Far Beyond Metal, hymn for metal headbangs. awesome Fucker, melody but still crushing Almost Again, and absolutly genious Plyophony, which can give us taste of Devins solo album - Zitolid The Omniscient. in some songs drums - diamond on the crown named strapping young lad - are too lazy, slowly, like no Gene... but album is still great!

This is definitely not their weakest. The New Black shits all over HAARHT and self-titled.

the new black is a stellar album. who are these people saying its there weakest? They sound like robots to me, you can't trust a robot. Far Beyond Metal with Oderous doing the guest appearance is my personal favorite off of it. so good.

This album is more like a meeting between his solo stuff and SYL - so that's why some say it's their weakest. To me it's a phenomenal album, full of passion and just general fun kick-assery -but it's nowhere near as chaotic or insane as City or Alien.
