“Where Were You in the Morning?” is the fourth single from Shawn Mendes' self-titled third studio album.
Shawn teased this song months before the album release after sharing a snippet on his Snapchat and Instagram story. He says it’s about a one night stand that may be based on his real life experiences.
On a Twitter Q&A before the album officially released, Shawn confessed that “Where Were You in the Morning?” was one of his proudest songs and his favorite song to perform on the album.
Like many of the songs on the album, "Where Were You in the Morning?" is a collaboration with Teddy Geiger, Geoff Warbuton and Scott Harris. It was during the penning of the soulful tune in 2017 that Shawn discovered how to hit the high notes that he uses during the record.
"Technically… last year, I couldn't sing falsetto," he told Entertainment Weekly: "I figured out how to the day I wrote Where Were You In the Morning. You never discover you sing falsetto again; you just do, once. You never discover you can say a certain thing again; you just do."
