There is more than one artist with the name NOVELA.

(1) NOVELA is perhaps one of the most popular and pivotal rock bands in Japan. Between 1980 and 1987 they produced many albums. The sound on the first records was ‘heavy progressive’, though later NOVELA turned more into a harder-edged rock band. NOVELA featured two known ‘progrock legends’: keyboard virtuoso Toshio Egawa (later Gerard and Sheherazade) and multi-instrumentalist Terutsugu Hirayama (founder of Teru’s Symphonia).

The first four albums contain both short, more heavy up-tempo tracks as well as long, very symphonic compositions with lush keyboards. In 1993 Nexus Classics (KICS2511) released the compilation CD entitled “Symphonic World”. This album includes all their ‘epic’ Mellotron drenched songs along a few shorter tracks. “La Songerie” contains two, very long compositions featuring Mellotron from Toshio Egawa.

Members Yoshiro Takahashi (bass) and Mototsugu Yamane (guitars) left NOVELA in 1982 to, later in that year, form ACTION!.

(2) NOVELA is perhaps one of the most popular Balkan singers. Her sense of aesthetic and extravagant voice range made her the queen of turbo folk. She was born July 16th, 1973 in Belgrade, Serbia. Her father worked as a teacher and her mother was an employee at the Chanel store in Belgrade. Her parents later divorced and she continued living with her mother. She started her musical career at age of 17, when she won the competition on television show ‘’Star Talent’’ and her single ‘’Život mi je brat’’ (Brother is my life) became number one and stayed number one for 7 months. Her other singles are ‘’Jedino zlo’’ (Only evil), ‘’Hoću kraj, pa u raj’’ (I want the end, then go to paradise) and ‘’Čini ti se, čini’’ (It only seems to).
