This song is fantastic and I'm sad to see some of the response it gets here. The chord progression is amazing and purely the ability to arpeggio that verse section while singing in Matt's trademark falsetto is impressive enough in my book. My only qualm is it's too short and lacks lyrics, but after thinking about it, that effect could add to the significance of the song. Short verses and a fast paced song reflect how short life is and how fast it goes by without even realising it. That's my interpretation at least. As if you always die before saying what you truly want to say. I'd also say that its pace matched with its concept/tone improve the song. Why have a slow, depressing ballad for the subject matter of death? This fast tempo allows us into a new perspective on 'the end', maybe even an optimistic one, an accepting one. Yes, it 'scares the hell out of me' but maybe that isn't such a bad thing and we should enjoy the fear while it lasts, at least it proves that we're really alive.

This song gives me a peaceful feeling, my perception is some of us are already dead, some are in hell some in heaven, and since I didn't ask to be born I get to the point when Matt sings "It scares the hell out of me And the end is all I can see And it scares the hell out of me And the end is all I can see" I get extremely upset because for some of us, death is all we want.

I agree with J-e-r-p-p-A. Before I even started listening to this song I thought it was gonna be awesome just because of the title and its subject matter. Turns out to be rather generic, drums are nothing special, the upbeat tempo of the song doesn't match with the mood and the subject matter of the song. In my opinion this song could be much slower, more melancholy and have a longer instrumental bridge section with some symphonic string parts in it. Not a bad song overall, they could have put a lot more work into it, just like they did with songs such as New Born, Citizen Erased, Stockholm Syndrome, Butterflies And Hurricanes and so many more.

I do get what you're saying, but if you have so many specific ideas for how this song should go, why not try your hand at music and write it yourself? I mean that 100% seriously.

Ah okay, sorry for the misunderstanding. That's interesting, what type of music do you make? Muse is actually the band that made me want to pursue more into music in the first place by attending a music school majoring in composition, due to their diverse range of styles they have, therefore expanded my musical tastes more than just punk rock and heavy metal. I'm still into those genres, I only listen to them from time to time.

So you are studying music composition? That's awesome. Have you written anything? I started off doing a cover of Bowie's "Fashion", then made an EP of original songs that's some kind of mixture of prog rock, hair metal, and synthpop. I wish I had started with music when I was younger.

Sorry for the late, late reply. Assignments and exams got in the way. Yeah I do, at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. Ah that sounds cool, do you have a link to your music? Keen to hear your stuff. You can hear some of my stuff on here: https://soundcloud.com/hammissile/tracks

Prior to listening to the album, I was expecting to really like this for some reason, but it's actually probably the weakest song on the whole album. Still not bad though.

Lol, as a Christian this song is pretty true, its one of those songs that makes you feel like "oh shit" what if my perception of what is real is not actually true, then what happens?

this band got me through highschool in general, but this song stands out it was around the time where i went from a christian to completely abandoning my faith it is interesting going from leaning on faith to get you through and coming to the realization that you no longer can lean on it because you no longer believe in it, and only have yourself in the end

Love this song. I'm an atheist. The line "it scares the hell out of me" it purposely ironic, I think. Most of the time I'm not really scared of death... fact is, whether or not you believe the world was around for 4.6 billion years old or only 6000 years old, that's still way more than most people can really conceptualize, and that's also how much time (or more) you DIDN'T exist at one point. So, what's the big deal if you don't exist again? lol. Still, the idea of "nothingness" scares me sometimes. Matt has that being an atheist means accepting this is your only life to live, and so you should live it to the fullest, appreciating it, and the only way to live on forever is through influencing the world around you. I agree with his feelings.
