As a part of the explosion of Avante Garde music in the early sixties in Britain King Crimson pushed the boundaries of fusion between Jazz, Rock, and Classical music. Islands is well worth a listen as it set the tone of future bands, which to be fair King Crimson would have also been influenced. The wonderful energies which have brought King Crimson, under the guidance of Fripp to this very day must be heard even once, and Islands is a wonderful clear album to gather a feeling for this band, and the era it came.
