this man is 91 years old and still performing, what an absolute beast. love the soundtracks he made, they have a nostalgic place in my heart. I hope he stays here for much much longer :)

Schindler’s list, the movie you have to watch at least once in your life and NEVER watch again.

"Rey's Theme" was his last great romantic theme imo. I mean among those which would spring to your mind once in a while for many years and which you would hum along (i.e. the likes of all classic Star Wars themes, Raiders' March, ET main theme, etc). And that's because it was probably the last time Mr.Williams was deceived into believing (like many of us) that in modern cinema something big, new and exciting could come out of a blockbuster or, God forbid, a trilogy..

Amagnificent composer beyond measure. This legend singlehandedly made big, orchestral scores popular again with Star Wars. His scores are all top tier incredible works that work to tell the story alongside the visuals. I can't get enough of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Empire Strikes Back.

It's a pity really that they happen to have the same 'registered artistic name' so to say: I don't know about the guitarist, but the composer could easily be signed as, for instance, 'John T. Williams' on his albums and in the movies (due to his real middle name), and such name would be automatically much more unique. But now Johns Williamses from all walks of life, no matter how talented or prolific, will be forever in the shadow of the filmcomposer one whose fame and input is immense.

John Williams the classical guitar performer is very underrated, his album The Great Paraguayan, John Williams plays Barrios, shows this prodigy is one of the best classical guitar player of all time.

I wonder if this underratedness is not per se, but due to the unfortunate coincidence of names and the fact that the other John Williams (the composer) is actually a living legend. I can imagine how many casual listeners' attention was detracted from one Williams to the other simply because of how more often he is mentioned, how numerous and how easy to find his records are, and so on.

His best work will obviously be from Star Wars, but which one is the winner, Episode 3 or Episode 5? Both are way too perfect. Episode 1, 2 and 6 are already near perfect as well. Too bad the sequels are garbage and even the music seems to reflect how uninspired the movies are.

Definitely not Ep.3, because its' music is mostly derivative from the Original Trilogy material. So the winner is clearly Episode 5. :) I personally like ROTJ score equally much though. And Ep.1 is precious because it had a lot of fresh and good material, much more so then the other two Prequels after it imho. (Disney is garbage, agreed, so only my condolences to Williams upon getting drawn into that tedious mess.)

Episode 5 is close, but the thing that holds it back are a few filler themes. Ep 1 was fantastic, but I did love episode 2, since it had a classic romantic noir style to the soundtrack

Other than the main theme, thats not a very memorable soundtrack. Its been awhile since I've listened to it though. I was also in middle school the last time I heard it, so who knows.

Okay, his best main theme is Schindler's List. It's been awhile since I've heard the whole thing myself.

The genius side of film score composing is a pathway to many compositions some consider to be... unnaturally good.

The score to the latest Star Wars episode is so vibrant and exuberantly blends so many themes and techniques that now, after enjoing it, I'm really afraid to watch the movie itself. :) "Last Jedi" was so unexpectedly bad that when - after watching it - I still decided to listen to the score separately, it made no impression on me. Don't know if the score to Last Jedi really was somewhat dull and uninspired (for a SW score) or was it my perception due to a lingering bad image of the movie.. Can it really be that Williams liked working with J.J. and didn't like Johnson and the way he went with the story?
