I first saw the music video for the original track, no remaster, when I was five. There are times when we cannot express with certainty the inherent tendency for melancholia that we harbor. I'm fifteen, now, with a chronic depression from chemical imbalance. 'Imagine', for me, holds that empty space of naive plea, the recognition that all things are measurable, and impermanent. John said it was a 'song for children'. I think it's gorgeous, and sentimental. We miss you. R.I.P.

It's a sappy song sung by a wife beater. And highly hypocritical to boot! One of the world's richest men dreams of no possessions! But a song I loved as a child. And one that fundamentally shaped my worldview. Because contained in those three simple verses are the basic building blocks of my core beliefs: atheist, internationalist, and communist.

i don't think this song is half as political as y'all think it is. it's about imagining a better world, and that's it. no prescriptions given. just imagine, just make pretend, and that's all. it's a simple message of hope with the slightest tone of defiance to the status quo and y'all get hella triggered and act like it's the communist manifesto lmfao. "it propagates a fake dream" as opposed to real, factual dreams???? stop tripping c'mon.

Would have had a better untarnished legacy had it not been written or sung by this guy.

there should be a federal law that forbids celebrities from covering this song.

People say the lyrics are unrealistic. I don't care they are a hope, a dream of a better world, a better place, and a better future.

"Imagine that there's no eternal paradise where everything is perfect and when you die it's just all black". Ok, I feel better now, thanks Jonn.

"Imagine no possessions" from the man who had a walk-in fridge for his fur coats. Love Lennon but I have absolutely no love for this song.

Because it propagates a false dream, and people fall so easily for it. It's very naive, to the point that it's almost dangerous. It makes people believe that everything with authority has to be abolished to reach a perfectly equal world where everyone shares everything with each other. But the 20th century has shown us the millions of deaths that were the result of these kind of dreams. The solution is to have a form of authority which the people respect, for which they feel responsibility for. That's for instance the essential advantage of a good religion. But Lennon's dream will in reality always fail. And a failure like that will always result in the deaths of innumerable innocent people. I can imagine that's not at all what that hippie wanted.
