Amy Lee wrote the lyrics. In the background of the song, Ben Moody reads out loud a poem he had written. The Latin chant repeated throughout the song was not written by Evanescence. It is a snippet from the song "Morning Hymn" from the Preludium of the Broadway version of Sound of Music. The Latin is translated to English as:
“O Jesus, King most wonderful!
Thou Conqueror reknowned!
Thou Sweetness most ineffable!
in whom all joys are found!”
