Biography

biography

Chris Walsh has been a club veteran since the age of 16. Growing up in Chicago at an ideal time, Chris had the privilege of attending Chicago's legendary Medusa's nightclub. It was at Medusa's where Chris' dance music tastes were formed. The late 80's were a great time for music in Chicago and Medusa's was the place to hear new dance music first. From the industrial sounds of Chicago's Wax Trax label (Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Front 242) to the early House sounds being released on such seminal Chicago labels as DJ International and Trax, Chicago was creating the blueprint for the soundtrack of global dance music culture.
Chris' early mentor was Chicago DJ/Producer Mark Picchiotti. Mark was a prominent DJ in Chicago playing at Medusa's, Crobar and Shelter. Mark also had international fame as a music producer, producing artists such as Jamiroquai, Latour and Kylie Minogue. After helping Mark put together his new studio, Chris was offered the position as a studio assistant. It was here, working with Mark Picchiotti, that Chris was schooled in the art of DJing and music production, working on projects for Madonna, Pet Shop Boys and The Absolute.

Soon after learning the ropes with Mark, Chris began his professional DJ career playing at some of Chicago's leading clubs including Shelter, Crobar, and Karma. Then in 1998 Chris teamed up with Chicago's leading club promoter, PURE. It was with PURE that Chris' DJ career really began to take off. Chris began to champion the progressive house and tech house sound in the city that gave birth to house music. He soon became a resident DJ for PURE, and played an integral role in pioneering the much loved sound of deep, rich, funky progressive house in Chicago. His style as a DJ is versatile yet uncompromising.
Chris has since left Pure to start his own Thursday night at one of Chicago's more intimate clubs called Narcisse. When he's not playing records in Chicago, Chris is busy DJing overseas in places like Russia, Ibiza and London. Chris has had the opportunity to share the bill with DJ's such as Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Dave Seaman, Pete Tong, and Timo Maas to name just a few. Chris has also been working the corporate scene by DJing events for Nike and Apple. At Apple he is currently DJing with the aid of 2 iPods. Last year Chris saw his first release Shake signed to Sony's Playstation game Grand Theft Auto 3 and HBO's hit series Six Feet Under.

Most recently Chris has set his sights back on the recording studio. He has teamed up with engineer Jeremy Coutre, and together they have formed Sangamon Studios. Recently they have put out remixes of Stella Nova's Quiet Nights on Uncommon Chill and Hipservice's Badaboom Badabing on Therapy. Chris and Jeremy have also put out two bootlegs. The first track is called Life originally by Hole in One, and the other is God Put A Smile On My Face by Coldplay. Both have reached the dance floors and club charts of DJ's such as Dave Seaman, Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, and Dave Ralph.
