Still no snow, just rain, wind, wind, rain and more rain..... not enough to prevent me getting out and hearing live jazz, which is the best way to hear it. Meanwhile at home classics like this brighten the day

Appropriately enough it is autumn in London and leaves are falling. Now for six months of cold damp weather. Glad my home is heated and I can listen to jazz like this.

Beautiful Autumn followed by this long cold winter in London. Looking forward to Spring whenever that comes.

We are getting some beautiful reds golds and browns swirling in the October wind around here, and this tune fits it perfecly. "Definitive version", discuss.....?

on cue as autumn is starting although no leaves are falling yet so it is good to get in the mood.....apparently it is going to be a mild winter.......and a warm one if Cannonball plays like this.......

lol...aleealski...interesting bit of jazz history in your monk quote...not only shows miles propensity for violence...but also thelonious' total lack of tolerance for it...hahah...!

Somethin' Else, credited to Cannon. essentially a Miles album for large parts but still great. Not that there's anything wrong with Miles except I suspect Cannonball was a far, erm, warmer person shall we say. I always get the impression that Miles, marvellous player that he was, may have been a bit, well, difficult (?)

Not the Somethin' Else version, but something else, and it is, er, something else. Love it, and I love Stuart's prose-poem of a shout below.

And now for something completely different. This is something else. Autumn leaves and although the leaves have not fallen from the trees yet I suspect autumn is just around the corner. It is now 29th. August and in a few days it will be September and all those leaves in St. James's Park will be falling down and it will be what they say in the U.S.A.: "FALL". That leaves me standing, looking at all those fine upstanding tees and thinking: they may have lost their leaves but they are still standing reaching up to the sun and feelng the rain and the sun pouring over them and growing to their full potential whatever the U.S.A. does. You have to credit Nature with the wisdom to do whatever is right and if shedding leaves is the right and proper thing to do in Autumn then that is what she will do. So let those autumnal leaves fall one by one. Now that's what I call something else. Listen and you will hear what I mean. Everything happens at the right time. And the timing is crucial here.

Beautiful piece from a wonderful album. I can't recommend Cannon highly enough, his live quintet albums with brother Nat are great, as is the later group with Joe Zawinul on electric piano. Mercy, mercy, mercy

Love Miles on this. Don't have much Cannonball in my library..but this track--and the album to be sure-are too hot not to hold---Miles, Art Blakey, Hank Jones...This is jazz history.
