Definitely. If somebody honestly thinks that there's absolutely nothing rubbish about their country, they need to get their head checked and a crash course in history.

@robbiej1978 "Dominating" the world is nothing to be proud of. I'm making observations, not bragging about American imperialism. If you'd like to equate rape and pillage with "[holding] it together", feel free. That's certainly not my opinion. I think US and UK are equally rubbish. Most states are.

Yeah, Alex sounded ridiculous when he said "it was fucking scary how American everything's becoming" around the time MLIR was recorded. Scarier than people with nothing better to do than hand-wring and whine about how identities and cultures evolve?

I like the humor in this song. Obviously America is not and is nowhere near perfect. However, those people who feel the need to hate and bring down the U.S aren't any better. Every country has its many, many flaws. :) Anyway I'm a first-generation American and I'm pretty happy living here :D

ixlovextofu go get some history, 300 years isn't much to shout about. You time has come and is passing soon thanks to China. You only dominated the world for aound 50 years. At least Britain held it together for a few hundred years.

All Americans can admit that not everything about our culture is great. I once saw an interview with Damon about the Americanizing of England, in which he discussed now American trends like suburbia and obesity were popping up across the pond. Those aren't things to be proud of. Conversely, I find it interesting, that the whole Britpop movement was a rejection of American trends taking over British culture, while Britain spent centuries trying to spread their culture around the world. Get over yourself, England.

it's become popular to hate america, but most of the people who say they do, love american culture. they'll wear their blue jeans and listen to rock and roll & rap, while they criticize america & americans.
