2Pac spent his childhood growing up on both coasts. Although he was not a member of any gang, he was “affiliated” with both the Cryps and the Bloods; clearly, he was not a man preoccupied with dichotomies

It follows, then, that 2Pac does not despise all of the named East Coast rappers qua their East Coast affiliation; rather, he hates them because they all happen to be bitches and punks.

2Pac’s beef was with some east coast rappers but people mistook it as a beef with the whole east coast. When he was asked about his beef with the east in interviews this was his answer. He always said he had love for the east and New York and Baltimore. His original rap name was MC New York. The statement was to explain his position and it wasn’t recorded for this track but it was added to it after his death as part of the intro to get that point across and to increase sales on the east coast. It helped but compared to All Eyez On Me it sold less in the US even though it sold more worldwide.
